About Michele Harvey Collins
The goal I have in mind with all of my paintings is to evoke a feeling or remembrance from the viewer, whether it is of places they have been, people they have loved or even a new, dreamy, unknown place they might long to visit.
As my art teacher always said, “You have the photograph as a reference point, now paint the feeling!”
I am always exploring a variety of techniques: oil, acrylic, cold wax and oil, encaustic and collage, often combining several at once.
That experimentation comes naturally because I teach art classes and workshops throughout the year and I believe both my students and I can benefit from the challenge of constantly trying new techniques and refining them along the way.
Abstract landscapes, abstract expressionism and figurative work are particular favorite subjects of mine.
I have lived in the American South for most of my life and I believe its lowcountry vistas have made an indelible impression on both me and my work.
I always seem to paint on big canvases, offering the viewer a wide open feeling that hopefully is both inspiring and peaceful but always tinged with a slight sense of mood and mystery!
